Applicants will be granted Maltese citizenship after they have invested in Malta in an amount equivalent to the minimum required investment for a Green Card or Tier 1 Visa, which is €650,000. After investing, applicants will be eligible to apply for Maltese citizenship by submitting their application and obtaining approval from the Malta Citizenship Acquisition Authority.

 

Malta is in the process of implementing a new citizenship by investment program to help those wishing to become citizens in Malta. This program will be available to individuals from outside the European Union who have an average annual income of at least €1.3 million for five consecutive years. The applicant must also make a pledge to invest €1 million in Malta before any citizenship may be granted. The Malta Citizenship by Investment Program is a program that allows foreigners to invest in Malta, in exchange for Maltese citizenship. The program was launched in 2016 and will remain open until 31 December 2022.

 

Malta plans to begin its Citizenship by Investment Program on December 1, 2021. The requirements for Malta's program are very similar to that of the other EU countries such as France, Portugal, and Spain. Malta is one of five countries worldwide that offer a Citizenship by Investment Program. Through this program, Malta offers its citizenship to people who invest in the country and make substantial contributions to the country. This includes setting up businesses in Malta or obtaining certain properties.
